The Ontario Elementary School Championships has a long standing legacy, and the upcoming event in Carleton Place marks the 31st consecutive year of celebrating youth curling in our province. The age of participants is typically from 8 to 13 years old. Each of the four curlers on a team must be from the same school and cannot exceed grade 8. The annual championships rotate throughout the province and are hosted by local curling clubs in conjunction with the local elementary schools. This is a great way for elementary school students from all across the province to interact while promoting the sport of curling.
Our goal for the 2018 championships is to draw 72 teams from all over the province to Carleton Place, Ontario. This means a minimum of 288 curlers, plus coaches, family, friends, and curling enthusiasts will descend upon our picturesque small town.
The curlers are guaranteed a minimum of 4 games between Thursday, April 5 and Saturday, April 7, with some teams participating in a maximum of 7 games. All championship games will be played on Sunday, April 8. In order to accommodate the 72 registered teams, 4 sheets of ice will be available at the Carleton Place Curling Club and 6 sheets of ice will be available at the Carleton Place Community Centre.
